Equipment
To film our thriller we didn’t really use much equipment! We
only used a DSLR and a tripod. We was planning on using a go pro, but when we
went out to do some practice shots, the quality of it wasn’t too great, so we just
decided to stick to the DSLR. We wanted the go pro to put on the runners head
when running, but we just held the camera to the head instead. We used a tripod
to make sure that most of our shots were steady, however, we didn’t want all of
our shots to be smooth, we wanted a few with to be a bit wobbly to portray that
Iyra is unstable. We also took a voice recorder with us, but when we got to the
location we couldn’t figure out how to use it, so we just used Niamh’s phone instead.

Update
Hey!
We have finally finished our editing for Deaden Hikes. During editing we came across a few problems resulting in some of our work being deleted. However, this was not a massive problem as we just worked hard to make everything right again. Majority of our problems was when we used after effects as we had many error messages come up when we was creating our titles. It didn't hold us back for long though, as we now finally have our finished thriller opening. I'm excited to share it with you!

Progress with Deaden Hikes
Editing is now in progress, we have put all of the clips together and now we are looking up different ways to do the titles. We are currently trying to find out how to do an anagram with our title 'DEADEN HIKES' , it is proving difficult as we cannot find a YouTube clip to show us how to do it, but we are trying our hardest and will hopefully work out how to do it:)
As for the music, we have started to put together some different sounds and are seeing what works well when its all played together.

Filming Day!
Hey guys,
So today we went out to Locko Plantation in
Pilsley to film for our thriller opening. It was such a busy day as we aimed to
get everything filmed in one day to help avoid continuity errors in editing.
Although Me and Hyleana was acting, all 3 of us had a go at filming the shots,
to make sure the work load was fair, but also to keep us all involved.
We met up today at 10am at my house, got ourselves ready and
then walked to the location that I have previously discussed. I thought we used
our time wisely, as we managed to get plenty of footage filmed before the
camera died on us at about 2 o’clock, then we went back to mine and had
something to eat whilst the batteries were recharging. We headed back out at
around 3 o’clock to get the last little bits filmed before it went dark.
All in all it was a very successful day and I’m looking
forward to showing you the clips we filmed and how our final video turns out:)
Here are some photos from today of Me, Hyleana and Niamh:

This theory suggests that an audience will use media texts for several different reasons. An audience may use one of these texts for one or several of the following:
- Diversion - This is the idea that a person will use a media text to escape everyday life and reality. For example, an person may regularly watch a soap opera to escape from their own problems/stresses and temporarily lose themselves in the light-hearted on-goings of a fictional character.
- Personal Identity - A person may also use media texts to identify with themselves and to find themselves in a character they can relate to.
- Personal Relationships - This is the idea of using media texts for social interaction and to enjoy a specific area of the media with others. For example, many may watch a programme for the interactions with friends or family purely for the conversation or unity that comes with giving time to watch the programme itself.
- Surveillance - Documentaries and News programmes supply this type of connection with media texts. Surveillance relates to the idea of using the media to receive information.
- Entertainment - This is the most widely used connection with media. Many people will use media texts after a long day as a way of entertaining themselves after the usual daily routine.
The Hypodermic Needle Theory
- The Hypodermic Needle Theory or Hypodermic Syringe Model implies that mass media has a direct, immediate and powerful impact on the audience.
- This theory also suggests that the viewer absorbs the information without any attempt to process or give the information context.
- The Hypodermic Needle Theory suggests that the media massively influences its audience without their direct consent or conscious knowledge of it doing so. For example, editing can be used to make audiences interpret things in certain ways without them applying a direct opinion to the matter.

BBFC 15
BBFC
Classification The '15' Category
The majority of thrillers have an age
rating of' '15', this is also my group's target audience. My groups film will
appeal to young adults as well as older adults. Below this paragraph are a few
requirements of 15 rated films. The following information is taken from BBFC
(British Board of Film Classification).
What does the ‘15’
symbol mean?
No-one under 15 is allowed to see a
‘15’ film at the cinema or buy/rent a ‘15’ rated DVD or video game. Parents are
warned that ‘15’ rated works are not suitable for children under 15 years of
age.
Is a ‘15’ certificate
on a video game the same as a ‘15’ for a film or DVD?
Yes, if a video game is rated ‘15’ it
is not suitable for players who are under 15. Parents should not assume that
because something is a game it is unlikely to contain the same sort of material
as a ‘15’ rated film or DVD. If the BBFC has rated a game ‘15’ it is because it
does contain the same sort of material as a ‘15’ rated film or DVD.
The ‘15’ rating has nothing to do with
the difficulty of a game or the amount of skill required to play it.
What sort of issues
might I find in a ‘15’ film, DVD or video game?
‘15’ works are stronger than '12' or
‘12A’ rated works and could include any of the following:
• Strong violence
• Frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').
• Portrayals of sexual activity
• Strong verbal references to sex
• Sexual nudity
• Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
• Discriminatory language or behaviour
• Drug taking

• Sexual nudity
• Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
• Discriminatory language or behaviour
• Drug taking
Most of these things will not appear
in my group's opening scene.
However, our film will not be appropriate for children as there will be scenes of violence and strong language.

Deaden Hikes Screen Play
DEADEN HIKES SCREEN PLAY
Characters:
Iyra- Pale skin, looks homeless,
run down make up, bags under her eyes, back comb bits of hair, quite timid, has
rips in her clothes.
Runner- Hair up, wearing a hoodie,
trainers, looks sporty, outgoing personality, helpful.
1. Wide Establishing shot that is sped up. Put the camera on the
tripod or bench, and leave it there whilst the sun comes up to show that time
has progressed and it’s still morning. There will be the diegetic sound in the
background of the shot.
2. The shot turns into a
pan, where the runner will run swiftly past, so she disturbs the scene and
there is no longer peacefulness. The Go-Pro camera could be used so the
audience will be able to see where the runner is going. The sound will be a
quiet heartbeat of the runner.
3. Low shot of the runner’s shoes when they’re running, so you can
see them traveling across the grass. The sound will be the footsteps in the
grass and the rustle of the leaves.
4. Quick cuts of hands tied together in rope. Movement of hands
slightly, showing she’s not 100% comfortable and she wants to escape. Iyra is
already in the woods.
5. Next is a shot with the Go-Pro, showing the runner’s movement
and what they can see in front of them. You can hear heavy breathing to show
that it’s actually from her point of view.
6. A close up of the runners footprint will be shown. The camera
will focus on the footprint after the runner has ran in the mud, and a title
will appear in the mud after it’s been stepped in. You will be able to hear the
squelch of the mud.
7. The camera will be set up on a tripod from a distance, then it
will pan across, looking at the runner go across the screen. The runner has a
paranoid look on her face, then looks behind.
8. There is a cross cut to Iyra sat down on her own at the tree,
she is looking confused and keeps talking to herself. After the video has been
shot, there will be voices added into the scene when editing, so you can hear
the voices in her head.
9. The camera will go to a close up of Iyra’s face, where you will
see her facial expression as being slightly frightened, the viewer will be able
to tell this because she will be fidgeting
around (trying to escape the ropes)
10. Place the camera on the grass/ground between the leaves and the
long grass, so you can see the runner. The camera is from Iyra’s point of view
as she’s got closer (the runner). The vision is slightly blurred.
11. There will be two camera shots, one of Iyra and the other one of
the runner. The screen will be split into 2 and we will see the runner getting
closer to Iyra. This will show their two perspectives.
12. Super imposed images put together, use the shot of the trees
spinning. Distort the images by adding sharp white tones to the pictures. There
will be high pitch sounds added to this scene.
13. Iyra has now got changed and is wearing the clothes of the
runner. This suggests that she will get away with living a normal life, and not
getting caught or told off for escaping the mental asylum.
14. The main title will then come on at the end, to make the end of
the opening.

Finding a Location
Last week I went a walk on the trail and down to my local woods to take some practice shots for our thriller opining Deaden Hikes. These photos are not the best of quality because they were taken on my iPhone 5C, but it did the job. We have two places in mind to film, these woods, that are located at Locko Plantation in Pilsley, and the woods in Wingerworth.
4 becomes 3
Our group has sadly now gone down to 3, because Courtney has decided to leave Sixth Form:( Although this has created some issues, Me, Hyleana and Niamh are working hard to ensure we sort everything out and get everything still done. Courtney was meant to be acting in our thriller opening as 'Iyra', however, she no longer wants to be included so I think Hyleana will end up being Iyra.

Finding a Location
On Saturday Niamh and Hyleana went to Wingerworth looking for places to film our thriller opening and get together some practise shots so we can get a better idea about how our shots will work out. Whilst they was in Wingerworth, I was in Pilsley also doing the same, I went to Locko Plantation (which is a local woods near me) looking at our story board and thinking about where we could do our shots if we was to film in Pilsley. This Video is from the Wingerworth location, and I will be putting some of the pictures I got from the Pilsley location up shortly! We will then discuss both of the locations and decide on a final place to film our thriller.

Risk Assessment for Deaden Hikes
Here is our Risk Assessment for Deaden Hikes. We had to think about the potential hazards, then say how we can prevent anything from happening, to ensure we will be safe when filming.

Role of a screen writer
Screen Play
A screenplay or a script is the written work by screenwriters for a film, video game, or television program. These screen plays can be original work or adaptations from existing pieces of writing, for example, a book being made into a film. In screenplays the movement, actions, expressions, and dialogues of the characters are narrated in great detail.

Screenwriters
Screenwriters are held responsible for developing the scripts, describing the stories, and explaining the moods of the characters. A screen writers job is extremely important because without them, there would be no script and then no films would be developed. The scripts come from the screenwriters ideas and imaginations. One thing that makes a good screen writer is speed, from research, I have found out that the most common screenplays are written one page per each minute filmed, meaning an average film will have about 90-110 minutes worth of screenplay, therefore speed is key, or it will take agers.

National Ad Campaign
Hey Guys!
So last month just before Christmas I travelled down to London
to shoot the brand new National citizen service Ad campaign to advertise it for
this year!
It was such an amazing experience as I’d never been involved
with anything like this before, it was cool to see all the expensive equipment
used and how much time and effort actually goes into filming a serious
campaign. I was in London for 3 days, the first day I travelled down after
school and then arrived at Black Island Studios where I was reunited with some
of my friends from NCS Leaders week. That evening we just had a brief about
what we were going to be doing the next two days. Day 1 of filming was so
tiring as we left the hotel at 7am and returned at 9:30pm! Filming was
exhausting but so fun, as we got to meet some famous people such as Suli
Breaks, Ali A and Emily Canham, who are all ambassadors for NCS. Day 2 we left
at 7am again, but was only at Black Island studios until about 5:30pm where we
then all departed to our different train stations and left to go home. On day 2
we carried on filming for the Ad, but then we had our photos took that are now
on the side of the big red buses in London and all around the UK, and all over
social media! Also, we had many interviews about our experience on NCS.
We filmed a 30 second TV Ad, 1 Minute Cinema Ad, and a 25
second YouTube ad, which I will put below so you can check them out, as I
feature in all of them:)

One Page Pitch Video
Here is our One Page Pitch, sorry its a bit long! But this basically just explains our ideas for the 2 minute opening to our thriller film. We also added into the clip a few extra things to make it a bit more fun, but also to practice our editing:)
Editing One Page Pitch
Me, Niamh and Hyleana are currently editing our one page pitch, because we filmed from 2 different angles to create the shot/reverse shot. The video of our one page pitch will be uploaded shortly:)

Initial Ideas
Here are the initial ideas for my thriller:
I have decided to change groups from who I did my preliminary task with because although me, Ben and Lydia worked well together, Lydia has now left and gone to college, so I have decided to join up with Niamh, Courtney and Hyleana because were good friends and I feel we will work even better together :)

The sub-genre in our thriller is horror, therefore we was thinking
of having a story line about a psychiatric patient who has escaped from a
mental asylum. We know that this is a sensitive topic, but we want to try and
do it justice and really show what it’s like to be in their shoes, and we want
to be respectful to the people with mental illnesses.
Our initial ideas include a character running through some woods,
with the camera focus then going onto floor where the titles will be, then the
runner stepping on the title for it to disappear. As well as this, we also thought the titles could be
moving with the runner and sound of heaving breathing.
Although we have
thought of some ideas, as shown on the mind map we created below, were not 100%
fully sure on the full story. However, we do have sort of a main idea that it
is going to be filmed in a wood in the day, because then we will be able to
edit the lighting and things after to make it gloomier or however we finally
decide to have it. Also, as I have said before, there will be a runner, who
then realises that someone is in trouble and may need help. We also thought of
having a close up shot of hands, with a rope tied around them with blood dripping
off them. We want to create a lot of different shots and cuts from the runner
to the tied hands.
